It&#8217;s an important thing to do but that is a lost day.<\/p>\n<p>Imagine then, if you will, that two days later there&#8217;s a similar curve ball.<\/p>\n<p>Which comes with more curve balls.<\/p>\n<p>Next thing you know your weekend is no longer your own and everything scheduled and planned for is figuratively tossed out the window.<\/p>\n<p><em>I wanted to say literally tossed out the window but that would complicate the structural integrity of the screens that keep bugs out so maybe not that.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Follow-up disclaimer<\/h3>\n<p>If it sounds like I&#8217;m complaining or griping or kvetching, I assure you I am not.\u00a0 There isn&#8217;t a single thing that I would change about the actions that took place in the aftermath of said curve balls.\u00a0 While it may have caused for a smattering of unexpected time away from the \u0153ffice and a weekend of shrugged shoulders, there&#8217;s no way I would have done anything different.\u00a0 Where and when we need to be for these things is frequently outside of the scope of our control and all we can do is act and react accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>So no, there&#8217;s no complaint here.\u00a0 Just an iteration of things that took place and how they pertain to the subject at hand.<\/p>\n<h2>Why blog about it?<\/h2>\n<p>The short answer is that&#8217;s just what I do.<\/p>\n<p>Now for the longer winded answer!<\/p>\n<p>See, here&#8217;s the weirdly paradoxical part.\u00a0 I&#8217;m writing a blog post about this subject because I was unable to complete the blog post that I was working on about a different subject because of this subject.<\/p>\n<p>Confused yet?<\/p>\n<p>I sure am.<\/p>\n<p>Please permit me to elaborate somewhat.<\/p>\n<h3>My blog writing process in a nutshell<\/h3>\n<p>Lately my blog posts have been about things that I find fascinating.\u00a0 Everything from <a href=\"https:\/\/georgenowik.com\/index.php\/2022\/02\/07\/audio-engineering-a-primer\/\">audio engineering basics<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/georgenowik.com\/index.php\/2022\/05\/30\/memorial-day-history\/\">holiday history<\/a> to why <a href=\"https:\/\/georgenowik.com\/index.php\/2022\/05\/16\/insomnia-is-a-jerk\/\">insomnia is a jerk<\/a> to the joy of <a href=\"https:\/\/georgenowik.com\/index.php\/2022\/08\/01\/making-a-voiceover-demo-part-1\/\">voiceover demo creation<\/a>.\u00a0 All over the map!\u00a0 Some of these topics require a cursory amount of digging to supplement what is already floating around in my keto-compatible fatty computer made of meat.\u00a0 Other times, like the one I was working on for this week, there&#8217;s a whole lot to learn about and it requires reading, absorption, potentially even m*th.<\/p>\n<p>Between the day job with medical equipment, evening time with the family, and later nights working on various voiceover and music recording projects, I&#8217;m not possessed of a specific &#8220;This is my time to write blog&#8221; space.\u00a0 What I tend to do is steal away a few minutes here, a few minutes there, a quick snippet or two in the in-between moments of being on hold on the phone, or waiting for reports to catch up.\u00a0 During those moments of down time, I&#8217;ll pull up the window with the topic and write a few more words.\u00a0 Or read a few more articles and ponder and then get back to whatever I was doing that was actual work.<\/p>\n<p>For some folks, I imagine this sounds like a nightmare scenario.\u00a0 For me, it sounds like a nightmare scenario to be perfectly Frank.<\/p>\n<p><em>Or Bob.\u00a0 Why do we have to be Frank and why is Frank so dang perfect?\u00a0 Why can&#8217;t we be Cliff, Jeff, B\u1d6bffy, or Tiffany? Can&#8217;t they have a chance to be perfect for once? Fair is fair!\u00a0 Come ON!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Nightmare scenario aside, since I started this whole thing last November, it works.\u00a0 Sometimes the entries get posted by the skin of my teeth but it works!\u00a0\u00a0 Do I prefer to be a bit more ahead of schedule?\u00a0 You betcha.\u00a0 Is that a deal-breaker?\u00a0 Is not being ahead of schedule going to stop me from the pitter patter?\u00a0 Not really.<\/p>\n<h3>How the curve ball impacted the nutshelled blog writing process this week<\/h3>\n<p>Referencing the above scenario, you can probably see how the curve ball might have proverbially conked me in the face and knocked me on my tuchus when I wasn&#8217;t looking.\u00a0 And then while I was trying to get my footing back, out came another one and laid me out for a near TKO.\u00a0 Because of course kick someone when they&#8217;re down.\u00a0 It&#8217;s the best time.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re not going to kick them when they&#8217;re down, don&#8217;t kick them when they&#8217;re up either.<\/p>\n<p>Those moments where I can steal away a bit of typing here? A bit of reading there? A bit of thinking everywhere?\u00a0 Completely evaporated.<\/p>\n<p>So last night I found myself staring down the barrel of a quandary:<\/p>\n<p>Stay up SUPER LATE and try to finish the post in question and then frantically record the voiceover in the morning and hope that there aren&#8217;t too many edits to make.<\/p>\n<p>OR.<\/p>\n<p>Push it out a week and instead speed-write a post in the morning about the whole thing and call it a day.<\/p>\n<p>I finally cried uncle at 10:30pm last night and crawled into bed resolute to attempt the latter of those options.<\/p>\n<h2>Why was there time for this post?<\/h2>\n<p>&#8220;But George,&#8221; you probably ask, &#8220;why then did you seem to have time for <em>this<\/em> post when the one you were working on has gone to the wayside?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s actually a valid question.\u00a0 For once.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll let you have that one.\u00a0 <em>THIS TIME<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The short answer is: when I&#8217;m writing something off the top of my head without a whole lot of structure, it goes real fast.\u00a0 This is stream of consciousness blogging at its (not very) finest.\u00a0 Couple that with that one time I was able to test out of &#8220;Keyboarding&#8221; in high school because I already knew how to type moderately fast (that&#8217;s a fun story for some other time), the words tend to come out almost as fast as I can think of them.<\/p>\n<p>Which isn&#8217;t that fast, really.\u00a0 I&#8217;m a slow thinker, by and large.\u00a0 But my typing speed and my brain function are pretty close to tandem at that rate so here we are!<\/p>\n<p>So that&#8217;s effectively it.\u00a0 This post is made possible by a fair typing speed and a slow brain working in concert to bring you words about stuff and things.<\/p>\n<h2>What to do when the curve ball hits<\/h2>\n<p>That&#8217;s the million dollar question.<\/p>\n<p>Again, proverbially.\u00a0 Wouldn&#8217;t it be something if that was literally the case?\u00a0 Except would it be the question that COSTS a million dollars or the question for which the answer is rewarded with a million dollars.\u00a0 What <em>exactly<\/em> is the million dollar question?\u00a0 Open to interpretation, subject to availability, void where prohibited, member HBIC, all rights reserved, not actually federally bonded and insured, batteries not included.<\/p>\n<p>Where was I?<\/p>\n<p>Oh yeah.<\/p>\n<p>Our reactions to curve balls can vary significantly given the circumstances.\u00a0 Sometimes we find ways to make everything fit and it&#8217;s all good.\u00a0 Sometimes it leads to a situation where we simply cannot possibly make everything work and something has to give.<\/p>\n<p>This can be a cause for quite a bit of stress and tension.\u00a0 Which is going to tie nicely into next week&#8217;s blog post but that&#8217;s NEXT week, and this is now.<\/p>\n<p>One message I want to share for anyone who is in a situation where curve balls are flying everywhere is this: allow yourself some grace.\u00a0 Whatever it is was unexpected.\u00a0 &#8220;Expect the unexpected&#8221; quotes aside, you&#8217;re doing what you must in the moment.\u00a0 Figure out all the other things later.<\/p>\n<p>This is a great opportunity to practice compartmentalization.\u00a0 In my case, it&#8217;s a matter of acknowledging that there is this new thing that must be done and the other things that I would like to do are not happening.\u00a0 Acceptance of those types of things can be difficult for me and putting them aside challenging.\u00a0 It is what it is, though.\u00a0 It&#8217;s important to stop and breathe.\u00a0 Take a moment.\u00a0 Again, allow for that grace.\u00a0 Self-care is vital in these high stress unexpected scenarios.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever it is that you&#8217;ve been curve-balled with, please remember to take care of <em>you<\/em>.\u00a0 It&#8217;s like on the airplane: in the event of loss of cabin pressure, the clear plastic Darth Vader masks are going to drop down from above.\u00a0 Put <em>your own mask on first <\/em>before assisting others.\u00a0 What good are you to anyone else if incapacitated?\u00a0 Because at that point, you&#8217;re someone <em>else&#8217;s<\/em> curve ball now.<\/p>\n<p>At least that&#8217;s my take on it.\u00a0 Your mileage may vary.<\/p>\n<h2>Closing out<\/h2>\n<p>The experiential curve ball is an unavoidable fact of life.\u00a0 Except with less Tootie and more realism.\u00a0 It&#8217;s going to knock you \u0153fftrack to some degree and that&#8217;s ok.\u00a0 We can&#8217;t always be perfect at all times.\u00a0 How we react to those moments and what we do in the aftermath is what counts.<\/p>\n<p>Remember.\u00a0 Allow for the fact that it was unexpected.\u00a0 Permit grace.\u00a0 Accept the circumstances.\u00a0 Flow with the wave.<\/p>\n<p>You got this.<\/p>\n<p>Until next week!<\/p>\n<p>-= george =-<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":654,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_exactmetrics_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[6],"tags":[195,199,198,197,196],"class_list":["post-650","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-general","tag-curve-ball","tag-react","tag-sideswipe","tag-swerve","tag-unexpected"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.6 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>The Curve Ball - George Nowik - Voice Actor<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"What is a curve ball in the context of life?
